Queeney Todd: A Drag-Opera Benefit for Heartbeat’s New Season
Heartbeat Opera’s October 27 benefit announcement connected its drag-opera production with support for the company’s 13th season.

Heartbeat Opera placed its 2026–27 season benefit inside the world of Queeney Todd, its annual meeting of drag, opera and musical theater. The October 27 gala at Judson Memorial Church was announced with an artist reception followed by a performance, with Miss Peppermint and John Taylor Ward named as special guests.
The production’s director and choreographer, Kemar Jewel, brought a background in Black queer performance and ballroom culture to the project. Nathaniel Sullivan was billed in the title role, with musical direction by Jacob Ashworth and Dan Schlosberg.
The benefit supported Heartbeat’s 13th season. That connection gives the occasion its significance beyond Halloween: the annual extravaganza is also a way to sustain the company’s work on the operatic stage.
The original production and gala announcement remains the reference for the advertised program. This archive entry preserves the October 27 edition; it does not report attendance or a fundraising total.
