Art With Purpose: Angels Helpers Brings Artists Together at the Harmonie Club
Alisa Roever’s October 23 gala paired a charity art auction curated by Ross Pino with support for children’s arts and education in New York.
Art took a central role at Angel’s Helpers’ October 23 gala at the Harmonie Club, where a charity auction connected contemporary artists with the organization’s work in children’s arts and education. Founder Alisa Roever brought the evening’s purpose into focus: widening access to the creative opportunities that can shape a young person’s future.
Artists at the heart of the auction
Contemporary artist Ross Pino curated and staged the donated artwork, taking responsibility for the collection’s presentation as well as contributing his own work. The participating artists were Barbtropolis, Edward Acosta, Richard Iwanski, Erinn Clancy, Juliette Alice Delorme and Ross Pino.
That contribution extended beyond a single auction lot. Pino brought the donated works together as a collection for guests and collectors to encounter during the benefit. Barbtropolis’s own account of the evening also thanked Angel’s Helpers, Pino and the Harmonie Club for including the artist’s work in the auction.
Arts education at the center
Angel’s Helpers NYC supports access to arts, culture, education and mentorship for young people in underserved New York communities. Its work connects the social side of a benefit with the longer commitment behind it: helping children develop talents that their families may otherwise struggle to nurture.
Roever’s interest in that work is personal. In her founder’s biography, she describes wanting to support her son’s enthusiasm for classical music when sustained music education was financially out of reach. The foundation’s programs include support for Harlem School of the Arts and Highbridge Voices.
The foundation’s leadership includes Eric Adams, New York City’s 110th mayor, as co-founder, and his brother Bernard Adams, a retired NYPD sergeant, as a board member. Pino serves as creative director. Their leadership biographies explain the organization’s work beyond the gala.
From the evening
Roever wore an ivory gown with feathered detailing against the foundation’s cream-and-gold backdrop. Group portraits document the gathering, while a photograph of the table brings the evening into smaller focus: flowers, candles and a printed Angel’s Helpers Gala menu.
