At Industry City on October 30, the Vampire Ball unfolded as a succession of scenes. Music changed from room to room. Dance performances and shifting visuals gave each space its own character. In one building, the party occupied three floors; outside, projected imagery washed over brick façades and a crowd gathered beneath an illuminated arrangement of gothic arches.

The scale was impressive, but the variety made the evening. There was always another room to enter, another sound to follow or a different view across the courtyard. For a Halloween party built around spectacle, the venue offered something equally valuable: places to pause.

A party with more than one pulse

Friday’s Mischief Night was the opening half of a two-night production created by House of Yes and David Kiss, followed by All Hallows Eve on October 31. The Village Halloween Parade named the Vampire Ball an official warm-up party and afterparty, connecting the Brooklyn gathering to the weekend’s Manhattan procession.

This was Industry City in Sunset Park, with its broad façades, warehouse interiors and passages between buildings. The setting gave the production room to spread out. Moving through the first, second and third floors of one building, we encountered different music, dance performances and visual treatments. Multiple sound stages meant the evening never depended on a single dance floor.

Our impression was of a crowd around a thousand strong—an estimate from attending, rather than an official count. What stayed with us was the movement: guests circulating between rooms, stopping for a performance and stepping outside before finding their way back to the music.

The courtyard made the difference

The spaces between the buildings were among the evening’s strongest attractions. After the energy indoors, the cooler air offered a welcome break. The surrounding structures sheltered the courtyard from much of the wind, making it comfortable to linger during our visit.

Guests danced and had drinks outside as light played across the buildings. Overhead, colored beams cut through the night; at the far end of the crowd, projections turned a tall brick façade into part of the performance. The industrial architecture remained unmistakable, even as the lighting transformed it.

That combination gave the party a pleasing rhythm. The courtyard was a destination in its own right, with enough visual drama to hold attention and enough fresh air to make returning indoors appealing.

Gothic detail, industrial scale

The photographs show how effectively the production worked with the site. Gothic arches and a glowing circular window introduced a cathedral-like silhouette into the courtyard. Elsewhere, a sculptural figure rose above the crowd, catching the changing light.

Inside, the scale became more intimate. A red-lit sign pointed toward the “Secret Vampire Room.” Suspended sculptural lighting, theatrical cabinets and red curtains supplied distinct backdrops. Costumes completed the scenes, from dark formal silhouettes to elaborate headpieces and sweeping capes.

The organizers’ published program also included a courtyard costume runway, a midnight costume contest and a Blood Rave. Our gallery follows the rooms, performances and outdoor spaces we explored on October 30.

The Circuit Report view

The Vampire Ball’s strongest achievement was making a large party feel worth exploring. The music, performances and changing visuals rewarded movement, while the sheltered courtyard gave the evening room to breathe. Industry City proved a beautiful setting for it: substantial enough to carry the spectacle, varied enough to keep the night interesting.

For guests who enjoy elaborate costumes and the freedom to move between musical moods, this was a standout Halloween outing. The photographs and short films below capture an evening whose appeal lay as much in the spaces between the dance floors as on them.
