The Rockettes Bring Their Footwork Into Focus

A new tap number and live stage-camera views give returning audiences something specific to watch for this season.

Precision is the Rockettes’ signature. Their formations depend on dozens of dancers making individual decisions look like one continuous movement. The 2026 Christmas Spectacular adds two ways to examine that craft: a new tap sequence and cameras that reveal the stage from angles an auditorium seat cannot provide.

The production runs at Radio City Music Hall from November 4 through January 4, 2027. For a returning audience, the additions offer a more useful reason to revisit than the familiar promise of holiday spectacle.

A new rhythm

“Ring,” set to “Carol of the Bells,” is the season’s new number. Guest choreographer Chloé Arnold developed it with the resident creative team. The choice puts tap at the center of the addition: sound and movement have to arrive together, while the dancers maintain the visual clarity associated with the company.

That relationship is the intriguing part of the announcement. A line can be read as a graphic shape from a distance; tap also asks the audience to listen to its individual accents. How the new sequence balances those experiences is a question for the performance itself.

A second view of the stage

MSG Entertainment has also announced live images on two side-stage screens, using cameras positioned to show overhead, side and front perspectives. The system is intended to give audiences a view of formations and movement beyond the sightline from their seats.

A camera can reveal how a pattern fits together, but it also selects where the viewer looks. The interesting test will be whether those additional views deepen the experience without competing with the dancers in front of the audience. The addition makes the geometry of the choreography part of the attraction.

Choosing a performance

The official Christmas Spectacular calendar is the place to compare performance dates and available seats. The long run offers a choice between an early-season visit, a holiday-week outing and performances after New Year’s.

For visitors considering a larger holiday trip, our New York Thanksgiving guide provides the surrounding context. The show continues beyond that weekend and through New Year’s, giving readers several distinct travel periods to consider.

The value of this year’s changes is their specificity. Rather than simply adding more scenery to a familiar tradition, the announced production offers a new piece of choreography and a different way of seeing the ensemble at work.
