The Piarist Debutante Ball 2027: Waltzes, Csárdás and Hungarian Tradition at the University Club
On January 30, New York's Piarist alumni present a new class of debutantes at the University Club, with tails, ball gowns, the Grand Palotás and a cause rooted in four centuries of free education.

When the holidays are over and most of New York has put its evening clothes away, the city's Hungarian community brings them back out. The Piarist Debutante Ball, organized by the Piarist Alumni Association, returns to the University Club on Fifth Avenue and 54th Street on Saturday, January 30, 2027, for a night that runs from a 6 p.m. cocktail reception to dancing until one in the morning. It is, by the organizers' count, the 64th edition of the ball, and it remains one of the few events in the city where a debutante presentation, a Hungarian csárdás and the Lester Lanin Society Orchestra share a program.
What the charity supports
The Piarist Ball combines a formal debutante tradition with support for Piarist schools. The charitable purpose is education: helping sustain schools associated with an order whose work centers on teaching. Explore the organization’s work.
Where support goes
The organizer explains that funds are needed to continue the schools’ educational mission, including tuition-free education. The public material does not publish a school-by-school allocation of this edition’s proceeds. The cause is distinct from the social presentation, even though the two are joined in one evening.
The people behind the work
The ball’s committees and participating families organize the occasion, while teachers and the Piarist educational community carry out the work it supports. Junior Committee co-chairs Elisa Lannon and Ryan Smith handle inquiries from debutantes and escorts. Meet the organization.
Why this evening matters
The Circuit Report covers its share of debutante balls, and the Piarist Ball is among the most distinctive. It is a living piece of Budapest's ball culture transplanted to a Fifth Avenue clubhouse, with the palotás and csárdás danced in earnest, a dress code that still expects tails, and a cause, free schooling for children, rooted in a teaching tradition more than four centuries old. It also fills a welcome gap: late January is a quiet stretch in New York's social season, and an evening of waltzes at the University Club is about as elegant a remedy as the city offers.
