New York’s transportation history is more than a collection of vehicles. It is a record of engineering, work, design and the changing communities connected by the city’s transit system. The Friends of the New York Transit Museum Gala placed support for that history at the center of its 2026 benefit, whose announced program marked the museum’s 50th anniversary.

The October 27 edition was scheduled for 6–10 p.m. at Tribeca Rooftop in New York City, with cocktails, a seated dinner and cocktail attire.

What the benefit supports

Friends of the New York Transit Museum, established in 1995, raises funds for the museum’s exhibitions, programs and collections. The institution identifies the gala as its principal annual fundraiser. Its giving program connects donations to collection care, new exhibitions and programming across age groups.

That work makes everyday infrastructure available for closer examination. The museum preserves stories of the people who built and operated the system alongside the technology and design of mass transportation. Supporting it sustains a place to investigate how movement helped shape New York.

The school and youth program uses vintage train cars and museum objects for guided, interactive learning. Its themes include public art, engineering and the evolution of the city’s transit network. Adult group tours extend that approach to the collection and historic Court Street station, with distinct experiences for different groups.

The announced program and the people behind it

The gala program named U.S. Representative Jerrold Nadler as the 2026 Transportation Impact Award honoree, recognizing advocacy for transportation and infrastructure. MTA Chair and CEO Janno Lieber was the announced presenter. Alison Stewart, host of WNYC’s cultural program All Of It, was the announced emcee.

Ticket history and continuing support

The original public registration listed Friend tickets at $1,500 and VIP tickets at $2,500, alongside tables and sponsorships. Those are historical prices for a completed date. The 2026 event page and its original registration record remain useful references for the edition.

Readers can continue supporting the collection through museum giving or membership. Membership includes regular admission and selected program benefits; it is separate from the gala’s ticket history.
