KOO JEONG A in Aspen: A Winter Exhibition After Dark
VACUUMOUSSS opens December 11, 2026, at Aspen Art Museum, bringing phosphorescent paintings and sculpture into a winter cultural itinerary.

A winter visit to Aspen can include a shift in perception as well as a change of altitude. KOO JEONG A: VACUUMOUSSS opens at Aspen Art Museum on December 11, 2026, and runs through April 4, 2027.
The artist returns nearly two decades after a 2007 residency with the museum. Sculpture, drawing, photography and painting occupy the second-floor gallery, with light, temperature and material relationships shaping the exhibition.
What happens when the lights change
At intervals, the gallery lights turn off, revealing phosphorescent stars in new paintings and luminous sconces featuring KANGSE, the artist’s humanoid character. A new sculpture imagines a skate park, connecting this presentation with KOO’s work on functional glow-in-the-dark skate spaces elsewhere.
The exhibition is curated by Claude Adjil with Daniel Merritt. Rather than treating a museum stop as a spare hour between plans, give this one enough time to experience the changing light. The effect depends on duration as well as the objects themselves.
A free stop downtown
The museum is at 637 East Hyman Avenue. Admission is free; published gallery hours are Tuesday–Sunday, 10 a.m.–6 p.m., with Monday closure. The official exhibition page has the current program, and our event guide preserves the complete winter run. Pair it with the Aspen calendar when planning a weekend around the town’s cultural events.
