The December 1 gathering shows how supporting a free university museum can open a different Miami Art Week itinerary.

Before Miami Art Week reaches its busiest fair days, the Patricia and Phillip Frost Art Museum at FIU has a smaller gathering on its calendar. Its Members Only: Art Week Brunch is scheduled for Tuesday, December 1, 2026, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. It is a members’ occasion, separate from the public Breakfast in the Park on Sunday.

The appeal is the institution behind the invitation. A university art museum has students, educators and local visitors to serve throughout the year. Membership supports that continuing work, while the brunch supplies one occasion to spend time with the museum community during the city’s busiest art week.

What membership supports

The Frost says member support helps sustain exhibitions, talks, performances and digital experiences while keeping general museum admission free. That makes membership a form of participation in public access, as well as a source of individual benefits.

The distinction matters at Art Week, when so much of the calendar is organized around private previews and paid passes. Supporting a free museum can connect an invitation to a broader civic purpose: keeping art available to people who are not traveling with a collector itinerary.

The membership options

The museum’s current membership page lists $50 categories for seniors and eligible FIU faculty, employees and alumni, and a $100 Individual Gold level. Published benefits include exhibition previews and gallery talks, with reciprocal museum benefits attached to qualifying levels. Higher tiers add further guest and program privileges.

Those benefits should be evaluated against how a reader will actually use the museum. Someone living in Miami may value repeat programs; an Art Week visitor may be more interested in a particular gathering and reciprocal access. Neither should assume that every tier or guest privilege applies to every special event.

The morning and the wider week

The brunch is at the Frost Art Museum on FIU’s Modesto A. Maidique Campus. Confirmed members should use the museum’s own communications for eligibility, guest arrangements and admission instructions.

Readers without brunch access can still plan a public museum visit and consider Breakfast in the Park on December 6. The two occasions share an institution but have different audiences and admission arrangements. Keeping them distinct makes the week easier to plan—and makes the case for membership more honestly than treating it as a universal event pass.
