Central Park Conservancy Gala 2026: Disco Returns to the Park at Studio 72

XEmail

On November 18, the Central Park Conservancy turns Rumsey Playfield into Studio 72, a disco-era night of drinks, dinner and dancing for the park that 42 million visits a year depend on.

The Central Park Conservancy has a gift for themed evenings, and this year's is pitched squarely at the dance floor. On Wednesday, November 18, the Conservancy's Annual Gala becomes Studio 72, an evening the organization describes as inspired by the glamour and energy of New York's most iconic disco era, with drinks, dinner and dancing inside Central Park itself. The setting is Rumsey Playfield, the familiar summer stage off the park's East Side, transformed for one autumn night into something closer to a velvet-rope club than a garden party.

The wink in the name is obvious to any New Yorker, and so is the point. Few institutions are as woven into daily city life as Central Park, and few benefits have as direct a line between the party and the place it pays for. Guests will be dancing on ground that the Conservancy maintains every day of the year.

The work behind the evening

The Conservancy’s benefits support the care of Central Park as a shared public landscape. Maintaining the park requires daily work as well as long-term stewardship, so a festive evening or luncheon is connected to something New Yorkers and visitors can enjoy throughout the year.

Support helps sustain the Conservancy’s care of the park, including landscapes, facilities and the expertise needed to maintain them. The Women’s Committee and Playground Partners create different ways to participate. Their event invitations and membership arrangements are separate; a ticket to one benefit does not include every other gathering. Explore the official work.

Betsy Smith serves as the Conservancy’s president and CEO. Its leadership includes specialists in park maintenance, infrastructure, finance and visitor-facing work. The Women’s Committee and Playground Partners add volunteer leadership and fundraising; Tracey Huff is president of the Women’s Committee. Meet the organization.

Chairs and committee

The 2026 Event Co-Chairs, as listed by the Conservancy, are Abigail & Joseph Baratta, Eliza & Michael Fisch, Gillian & Sylvester Miniter, and Elaine & Donald Textor. Four couples sharing the chair is in keeping with the gala's character: this is an evening sustained less by a single headline patron than by a broad circle of park loyalists, many of whom return year after year. The Conservancy has not published a fuller benefit committee on its event page, and we will note any additions as they are announced.

The program

The Conservancy has not announced honorees, a host, or performers for Studio 72, and its event page presents the night simply as drinks, dinner and dancing. That is consistent with the gala's recent tradition, which has favored immersive themes and a full dance floor over a lengthy awards program. The emphasis falls on atmosphere: a disco-era evening built for movement rather than speeches, under the sponsorship and production the Conservancy assembles each year. There is something fitting, too, about bringing a nightclub fantasy into the park in late November. Rumsey Playfield is best known as a summer stage, a place for concerts under open sky, and recasting it as a disco for an autumn evening is the kind of transformation that makes a themed gala memorable. The 7:00 p.m. start leaves a long runway for dinner and an even longer one for dancing. Should a musical act or special guest be named, we will update this preview.

What the Conservancy does

The Central Park Conservancy is a private, nonprofit organization that has cared for Central Park since its founding in 1980. Its work spans daily maintenance across all 843 acres, from planting to trash removal to repairs; welcoming visitors through tours and programs; restoring the park's architecture, landscapes and waterways; and fundraising to make all of it possible. The Conservancy states that it raises 80 percent of Central Park's annual operating budget, mostly through private philanthropy, and that more than $2 billion has been invested in the park's restoration since 1980. It employs more than 400 staff year-round, and the park receives some 42 million visits a year. The organization also runs the Davis Center and supports parks beyond Manhattan through its Five Borough program.

Those numbers explain why the gala matters. Central Park can feel like a natural inheritance, but its condition is the product of constant, privately funded labor. The Conservancy has not published a fundraising goal for the evening, but proceeds from its benefit events support the care of the park.

Why it's on our calendar

There are grander venues in New York and more solemn benefits, but few evenings have this one's combination of civic purpose and sheer fun. The cause is universal: nearly every New Yorker, and millions of visitors, use the park the Conservancy keeps. The theme is irresistible, a knowing nod to the city's most celebrated nightlife chapter, set inside its most beloved public space. And the co-chair roster signals a committed, multigenerational community of supporters rather than a one-off spectacle. It is the rare gala that invites guests to dress up, dance and leave knowing exactly what their ticket helped pay for. The Circuit Report plans to follow up with coverage of the evening.

How to attend

Tickets and tables are sold through the Conservancy's official ticketing page, linked from its gala event page. When our guide checked that page on October 10, it listed individual tickets from $2,500 and tables from $20,000; levels and availability may have changed, so confirm current pricing directly. For tables, sponsorship or other questions, the Conservancy's Special Events department can be reached at 212.446.2242 or specialevents@centralparknyc.org. We recommend booking only through these official channels.
